What to study, and when

Two syllabus halves โ€” your agriculture core (already familiar from your degree) and general studies (the part most agri students under-prepare). Below: the full topic list, a weekly routine, and milestones to check yourself against.

๐ŸŒฑ

Pillar 1 โ€” Agriculture core

Your degree is the syllabus for AFO, NABARD, ADO and UPSSSC technical papers. Your job is to convert coursework into crisp, exam-ready recall.

๐Ÿงฎ

Pillar 2 โ€” General studies

Reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English/Hindi, general awareness & current affairs. This decides bank & SSC cut-offs and is where you must build from scratch.

Pillar 1

Agriculture syllabus โ€” subject by subject

The "Professional Knowledge" paper in AFO and the ARD section in NABARD draw from exactly these areas. Aim for one revision sheet per subject.

๐ŸŒพ Agronomy

Cropping systems, tillage, cropping seasons (Kharif/Rabi/Zaid), irrigation & water management, weed management, major field crops & their package of practices.

๐Ÿชจ Soil Science

Soil formation, physical/chemical properties, pH & salinity, NPK & micronutrients, fertilizers, manures, soil testing, problem soils.

๐ŸŒท Horticulture

Fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices & plantation crops; propagation, orchard management, post-harvest & protected cultivation.

๐Ÿงฌ Genetics & Plant Breeding

Mendelian genetics, selection methods, hybridization, heterosis, mutation & biotechnology basics, seed technology.

๐Ÿ› Entomology

Insect morphology, major crop pests, life cycles, integrated pest management (IPM), pesticides & safe use.

๐Ÿ‚ Plant Pathology

Fungal/bacterial/viral diseases, symptoms, disease cycles, management, integrated disease management.

๐Ÿ’ง Agri Engineering

Farm machinery, irrigation methods (drip/sprinkler), soil & water conservation, watershed basics.

๐Ÿ“Š Agri Economics

Farm management, agri finance & cooperation, marketing, MSP, WTO & agri policy, agri statistics basics.

๐Ÿค Extension

Extension methods, transfer of technology, rural development & government schemes, ATMA, KVK.

๐Ÿ„ Animal Husbandry

Basics of dairy, poultry & livestock, breeds, nutrition & common practices (lighter weight in most papers).

๐ŸŒ Ecology & Env.

Agro-climatic zones, climate change & agriculture, organic farming, natural resource management.

๐Ÿ“ฐ Current Agri Affairs

New schemes, budget allocations, MSP updates, agri-tech, latest crop & policy news โ€” track monthly.

Pillar 2

General studies syllabus

Shared across AFO, RRB, PO, SSC and state exams โ€” every hour here pays off many times.

๐Ÿงฎ Quantitative Aptitude

Number system, simplification, percentages, ratio & proportion, average, profit & loss, SI/CI, time-speed-distance, time & work, mensuration, data interpretation, number series, quadratic equations.

๐Ÿงฉ Reasoning Ability

Puzzles & seating arrangement, syllogism, blood relations, coding-decoding, direction sense, inequality, order & ranking, series, input-output, statement & conclusion.

๐Ÿ“– English + Hindi

Reading comprehension, cloze test, error spotting, para-jumbles, fillers, vocabulary; Hindi grammar & comprehension for state / RRB local-language sections.

๐ŸŒ General Awareness

Banking & financial awareness, Indian economy, static GK (polity, history, geography), science basics, sports, awards, and daily current affairs.

๐Ÿ’ป Computer Awareness

Fundamentals, MS Office, internet & networking basics, abbreviations โ€” light but scoring in bank mains.

๐Ÿ“… Current Affairs

Last 6โ€“8 months before each exam: national, international, economy, agriculture, appointments, schemes. Build the daily one-page habit now.

Make it a habit

A sample weekly routine

Built around a college schedule. Adjust the clock to your day, but keep the structure: aptitude early, subjects in blocks, a weekly full test.

๐Ÿ“š College day (~3โ€“4 focused hrs)

Early morning
45 min โ€” Quantitative Aptitude (fresh mind = maths)
Morning
30 min โ€” Reasoning practice
Commute / gaps
Current-affairs reading + revision flashcards on phone
Evening
60โ€“75 min โ€” one agriculture subject (rotate daily)
Night
20 min โ€” English/Hindi + write today's current-affairs page

๐Ÿก Free day / Sunday (~6โ€“7 hrs)

Slot 1
Full-length mock test (timed, exam-like)
Slot 2
Deep mock analysis + error log update
Slot 3
Weak-area drilling (whatever the mock exposed)
Slot 4
Agriculture revision sheets (2โ€“3 subjects)
Slot 5
Weekly current-affairs consolidation

โฑ๏ธ The non-negotiables

Whatever else slips, protect these three daily: 45 min of quant, one agriculture topic, and your current-affairs page. Consistency beats intensity โ€” a steady 3 hrs/day for two years crushes occasional 10-hour bursts.
